American Airlines’ AAdvantage Members: No Need to Worry

AAdvantage Miles Card

On Tuesday, November 29, 2011 American Airlines filed for reorganization under Chapter 11. What this means is that they have filed for bankruptcy.
AAdvantage Members received an emailed letter that addressed the issue further and explained what will happen next, as far as your AAdvantage Mile and future flights.

We want to assure you that your AAdvantage® miles are secure.

Maya Leibman, President of AAdvantage Loyalty Program, explains more about your miles and their status during the company’s reorganization process:

  • Your AAdvantage miles are yours and will stay yours, until you choose to redeem them.
  • Your elite qualifying miles and your elite status, is also secured and remains intact.
  • You will continue to earn miles through the AAdvantage participating companies and you will be able to redeem those miles for the same great rewards – flights, upgrades, car rentals, etc…
  • Throughout the upcoming year, AA will be adding even more opportunities to earn miles, as well as new ways to redeem them.
