Daffy’s To Close Stores This Fall

Daffy's Banner

Daffy’s goes out of business this Fall.
This comes as shocking news to me, because I LOVE Daffy’s!

I enjoy going to Daffy’s during lunch, and browsing through some of really great European clothes you wouldn’t find anywhere else. Thursdays, was my favorite day because that was when new items were added to the rack and I had to be the first one there to update my wardrobe. Daffy’s sales were always great, 70-80% off, you could find outerwear in the Summer and be ready for the Winter before it arrived.

So here’s the scoop…

On Monday, July 16, 2012, Daffy’s announced that it will be closing up shop and liquidating its 19 stores over the next several months.

Why?!

According to Ms. Faith Hope Consolo, interviewed by the WSJ on a recent article, Daffy’s “just didn’t keep up with the market,” Ms. Consolo said. “They bit off more than they can chew. They couldn’t get access to the products. There were too many players. Everybody is fighting for the same customer. …. [TJX] just ate their lunch.”

Where Will We Go For Great Bargains?!

I don’t really like this idea, but apparently TJ Maxx and Marshalls are our best bets.  I liked Daffy’s because it just seemed more organized, I enjoyed finding European designers I liked (Liu Jo, Patrizia Pepe, etc…), I have yet to see these at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. I will be going to Century 21 for my bargains, I just have to find a way to avoid the tourists.

How Many Stores Are Closing?

ALL OF THEM. All 19 locations in NYC, NJ and Pennsylvania.

So What’s Next?

Get out there and shop. Daffy’s will be having huge sales in the next couple of months, so go out there and go holiday shopping in July.

You will be missed, Daffy’s!
