The Greatest Success in the World

Someone allowed me to borrow this book, and after reading it I am sooo glad I did. It is the best book I’ve read in a long time. I did not just read this book, I made sure I took notes and shared my notes with others via Twitter and email to my friends and family. Everyone seemed to enjoy the words of wisdom being shared, so I decided that all my blog readers should get these words of wisdom too. Enjoy!

The Greatest Success in the World
by: OG Mandino

One should always retire at one’s pinnacle rather than wait until the world begins to look on your efforts with sympathy.

How regretful it is that man becomes such a slave to his occupation or his career that he forgets he was created to enjoy this beautiful world and he quickly becomes blind to the miracles of nature that take place before his very eyes, every day.
When was the last time you watched a sunset?

Never worry about the inevitable. Whatever is happening, you will know soon enough.

The secret to confronting any situation in life that threatens to overwhelm and defeat you is to stand fast.

Our finest traits and characteristics can grow weak, just as our muscles do, if they are not employed constantly.

God gives every bird its food, but he does not throw food into their nest.

We are so blinded by envy and self pity and we never give a thought to count our blessings.

Not blessed is he that feedeth the poor but blessed is he that considereth the poor.

A little consideration and a handful of kindness are often worth far more than gold.

We are rich only through what we give – and we are poor only through what we keep.

Every kind act is an act of charity.

If you would plant for days, plant flowers. If you would plant for years, plant trees. If you would plant for eternity, plant ideas.

Nothing is impossible unless one agrees that it is.

The 10 Commandments of Success

  1. Labor each day as if your life hung in the balance.
Always perform what is asked of you and more. Your reward will come. What you plant now you will harvest later.
  2. Learn that with patience you can control your destiny.
Patience is bitter but its fruit is sweet.
  3. Chart your course with care or you will drift forever.
It is impossible to advance properly in life without goals. No ship ever lifted anchor and set sail without a destination.
  4. Prepare for darkness while traveling in the sunlight.
Realize that no condition is permanent.
  5. Smile in the face of adversity until it surrenders.
He who wrestles with you always strengthens your nerves and sharpens your skills.
  6. Plans are only dreams without action.
  7. Sweep the cobwebs from your mind before they imprison you.
Why do we still grieve over our failure?
Will tears improve our skills while we labor for our families?
Why do we still remember the face of the one that harms us? Will the thought of sweet revenge enable us to sleep better tonight?
Friends dead, jobs failed, words that wounded, grudges undeserved, money lost, sorrows unhealed, goals failed, ambitions destroyed, loyalties betrayed – why do we preserve all this evil clutter as if it had value?
The ability to forget is a virtue, not a vice. Never let worry about tomorrow cast a shadow over today.
  8. Lighten your load if you would like to reach your destination.
    Simplify your life!
He is richest who is content with the least.
If wealth becomes part of your baggage you become poor, for then you will be no more than an ass whose back bows under the weight of gold… The greatest falsehood in the world is that money and property can fill your life with joy.
  9. Never forget that it is always later than you think.
Live with death as your companion but never fear it.
Many are so afraid to die that they never live.
Words on paper are powerless as words on stone unless they are translated into deeds.
  10. Never strive to be anything but yourself.
Never waste any effort into elevating yourself into something you are not, to please another.
Does a cotton plant bear even one apple?!
Does a pomegranate tree ever produce one orange?
Does a lion attempt to fly?
Only man, of all living things, foolishly strives to be other than what he was intended to be until life marks him a misfit.

You cannot choose your calling, your calling chooses you! You have been blessed with special skills that are yours alone! Use them, and forget about wearing another’s hat.

NO ONE can take your place, realize this and BE YOURSELF!

Do the very best that you can, in the things you do best, and you will know in thy soul, that you are THE GREATEST SUCCESS in the WORLD!!
