A few weeks ago 75 lucky bloggers were selected to receive, read, review and giveaway a copy of The Now Revolution by Jay Baer and Amber Naslund. Amongst those lucky bloggers, KMP Blog was chosen. The book launched earlier this month and I am giving a brand new copy of the book right here on this blog post. If you don’t win, go check out some of the other bloggers participating in the giveaway. If they are all gone, you can always purchase one from Amazon.
I will slowly give you The Good, The Bad and the Really Ugly about this book.
The Good!
The Now Revolution is an excellent book for anyone in a business and wishing to make the transition to social media. The Now Revolution explains how easy that process can be and the tools and tricks you need to better understand and use social media to your company’s benefit. More good about this book is that it is interactive, throughout the book you’ll find QR Codes or Microsoft Tags that you can scan with your smartphone which take you to additional reading and samples of things discussed in the book. The Now Revolution book is organized in 7 shifts which will each guide you into “{making} your business faster, smarter and more social,” like the title of the book says. To give you a better idea below are the 7 Shifts and once you get the book you can read more about what each Shift means.
Shift 1. Engineer a New Bedrock
Shift 2. Find Talent You Can Trust
Shift 3. Organize Your Armies
Shift 4. Answer the New Telephone
Shift 5. Emphasize Response-Ability
Shift 6. Build a Fire Extinguisher
Shift 7. Make a Calculator
The Bad!
The book starts out slow. At first it feels like I’m reading a textbook with tons of info but not great enough to highlight. The beginning of the book misses that reader attraction that allows me to continue reading further.
The Ugly!
As a blogger who doesn’t really own his/her own business yet, I found this book not as helpful, at least not right now. The information is excellent for someone that’s already in a business and wishes to transition into social media, or bring the social media transition to their workplace. I’m currently not at that stage so I can’t find the information much useful right now.

getting left behind
The social media transition scares me from the perspective that it is all tech-based. We care more about designing technology to connect people and foster socialization that we overlook opportunities to redesign things like the education system that would accomplish the same objectives and be, perhaps, more beneficial to society.
Congrats Scott!
