I’m currently reading this interesting book/memoir called What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami. The quote below really spoke to me and I had to share it:
“…a person doesn’t become a runner because someone recommends it. People basically become runners because they’re meant to.” (-Murakami, pg. 44)
At one point in time I wouldn’t agree with the above quote, but now I do. To want to run, you have to kind it figure it out on your own. Yes, you might be inspired by other runners. Trust me, I’ve been inspired plenty. But there will be that one morning you wake up and decide you want to run and enjoy it and continue to do it. Maybe, like the quote said you were meant to run or you were Born to Run all along.
Whether I was meant to be a runner or not, for now I’m just enjoying the ride.
Last but not least, I had the wonderful opportunity to share my running story on Karen’s Reason to Play blog, where I briefly share my history on when I started running, some useful tips for new runners and other great advice. It is a long read, but I promise is well worth it. I hope you enjoy the post.
