Nike Flyknit NYC Event

Flyknitlunar2

The Nike Flyknit Lunar2 will be available for purchase at Nike.com and at select retailers beginning Feb. 6.

Light. Strong. Nike Flyknit.

This past weekend a very lucky group of us were invited to attend a special Nike Flyknit event in NYC. Like any other Nike event, I knew this event would be EPIC!

We arrived at Moynihan Station and we got to learn more about the newest Flyknit collection. We were also, pleasantly surprised by the Black Mamba himself, Kobe Bryant as he talked about his new sneakers coming out, Kobe 9 Elite.

After we listened to Kobe speak and learn more about the Flyknit collection, the select few of us runners, were escorted to a locker room, where we were surprised for what the rest of the night would entail.

I literally screamed when I saw my name on the locker, it was pretty surreal and exciting.

The women’s lockers included some snacks, a running jacket (Only Men’s version currently available) , Capri running pants, running shirt, a pair of Flyknit Lunar 2 or Flyknit Racer, a sports bra, Dri fit socks and a large duffel bag. The men’s locker included snacks, a running jacket, running shirt, running shorts, socks, Flyknit Lunar 2 or Flyknit Racer and a large duffel bag.

After we got dressed we were escorted to a bus that took us to our surprise destination.

Destination:

Park Slope Armory, Brooklyn, NY

Allyson Felix, Aries Merritt

At the armory we were slightly confused, and wondering what we were going to be doing. Regardless we were all very excited. Then, even more excited when Olympic Gold Medalist Allyson Felix and Aries Merritt came out to talk to us about our evening at the armory. Their coach Bobby Kersee was also there to teach us a few things.

We were split into groups and each one of them had us doing some drills they do before their competition.

Aries taught us some moves on the hurdles. These moves are great for hip mobility and to loosen up our hips.

Allyson showed us some basic running moves, A-skips, butt kicks, A-skips with kicks, and high knees.

Coach Kersee taught us some core exercises: supermans, side planks, side planks with leg lifts and a few others.

autograph baton

After the drills we were split into teams and did a quick relay (4X200) race around the track. We were also told we each will get an autographed baton, signed by Allyson Felix and Aries Merritt. How cool is that?!

“When I’m doing my training runs, I really want something comfortable – you don’t want to be thinking about anything else but your run,” said Felix, who wears the Nike Flyknit Lunar2. “It’s really great when you have a shoe that’s so lightweight and comfortable that you don’t even know it’s there.” (NikeInc.com)

Anyways, during the relay race is when we really got to test out the Flyknit Lunar2. I must say, when I took off running I forgot I was wearing them, and I mean that in a good way. They were light, but snug to my feet, every time my foot landed, I felt secured, grounded and in control. I love them. I can’t wait to test them out on the streets and on the treadmill, but on the track they felt absolutely amazing.

This was one of the most amazing events I have ever attended. Being schooled by Olympic Athletes, being able to test out a product before it hits the market and being surrounded by amazing people was a dream come true. Thank you Nike Running for this phenomenal experience.
