5 Ways to Add Romance to the Holidays

Danielle Vernon writes for wedding bands where you can find information on what to look for when shopping for a diamond engagement ring and other fine diamond jewelry.

The craziness that surrounds the holiday season (shopping and shipping and hosting, oh my!) can easily leave you too pooped to pop.  So when your honey comes around looking for a little romance, he or she is more likely to find you sawing logs than setting up aromatherapy candles.  How can you infuse your holidays with a little romance when your stress levels have reached maximum capacity and your last nerve is ready to jump ship?  The truth is, you need to take a step back, relax, and look at what’s really important (that would be your significant other).  Then you can cut back on your many activities and obligations and devote time to the one you love instead.  Here are a few ways to show you care and rekindle the spark this holiday season.

1.     Give the gift of time and attention. You’ve likely been pulled in several directions lately (between work, family, and preparing for the holidays), which means you haven’t been focused on your relationship.  Sometimes the best way to show you care is to simply clear your schedule to let the one you love know that they’re the most important person in your life.  Throwing in a massage couldn’t hurt, either.

2.     Cook a favorite meal. Romantic dinners may be cliché, but they’ve become a classic date night for a reason: they work.  So whip up your partner’s fave or try something new to spice things up (just don’t go too spicy if you want the evening to end in the bedroom instead of the bathroom).  You can even look online for foods that are said to be aphrodisiacs (oysters, chocolate, or champagne and strawberries, for example) and whet your loved one’s appetite by giving them a test run.

3.     Go without electricity. Turn off the lights, the TV, the phone, and other modern technology that might interrupt your plans for romance.  Then get a fire crackling, light a few candles, and have a carpet picnic.  You can even make things a little more interesting by reading aloud from a steamy novel or checking out diagrams in the Kama Sutra.  Without electronics to distract you, the visual and aural aids might not even be necessary.

4.     Have a fight. This may not sound like a great way to get romantic, but bundling up to have a snowball fight or coyly throwing some flour when you’re baking will get your hearts pounding and necessitate clean-up (as in, a shower for two).  Nothing gets the passions boiling like a little well-planned competition, so get some romance going by making your interactions fun and playful.

5.     Plan a getaway. Nothing will show your partner how special they are like a romantic weekend for two at a distant location.  In truth, it doesn’t even have to be that far away as long as you make sure you are beyond the reach of any distractions (like your daily life).  Of course, a trip to a remote locale will ensure that the world doesn’t intrude on your bubble of intimacy, but leaving your cell at home, renting a room, and locking the door is a good way to kick off the romance and focusing on your relationship this holiday season.
