Alexa’s How-To-Haunt Guide

This Halloween, Amazon Devices, Alexa, and Ring invite you and your family to celebrate the holiday by creating not just a smart home, but a spooky smart home!

Ghouls, Ghosts, and Goblins, Oh My!:

Halloween is never complete without a spooky story. This year, use your Echo Dot to have Alexa tell you and your family a ghost tale. Simply say, “Alexa, tell me a ghost story,” “Alexa, tell me a scary story,” or “Alexa, tell me a Halloween story,” to hear a variety of stories that will leave you all shivering with fear. You can also use the Spooky Story Alexa Blueprint to create an interactive ghost story for kids with their own names as the main characters! Connect your Echo Glow to your Echo Dot to get in the Halloween spirit with a dimly lit room. You can simply dim the Echo Glow or say, “Alexa, set Echo Glow to campfire mode,” to tell fireside stories.

It’s just a bunch of Hocus Pocus – or is it? For those that enjoy a spook and want to find and capture ghosts, enable the Ghost Detector skill on your Echo Dot. Then ask – “Alexa, launch Ghost Detector” to start ghost busting.

Paranormal Activity:

Want to scare your friends and family members? Set up your Amazon Smart Plug with lamps around the house and program the lights to turn off at a certain time in the Alexa app. When they least expect it, the lights will shut off and you can blame it on the ghosts! You can also use your Amazon Smart Plug with your Halloween string lights, so you can easily ask Alexa to turn them on, or create a routine in the Alexa app to have them turn on at dusk.

And, bring the ‘spook factor’ outside the home, by dressing up your Ring Video Doorbell with a Halloween Faceplate and adding a new spooky Chime tone. When your family and friends aren’t looking, step outside to ding dong ditch your Ring Video Doorbell, leaving a Jack-o-Lantern or faux creepy crawler in your place. When your family checks their Ring app to see who’s at the door, it will be sure to give them a fun fright!

Double, Double Toil and Trouble:

Use the Food Network Kitchen skill on your Fire TV or Echo Dot to whip up some festive Halloween treats. Your friends and family will be screaming (with delight!) when they see your creations. Our favorites include Witches Brew, Caramel Apples, and Spooky Peanut Butter Spider Cookies.

Ultimate Halloween Movie Experience:

Watch the family’s favorite Halloween movies on Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube, Disney+ and more with Fire TV. To create a theatre experience, make sure to set up your Philips Hue Smart Light Bulbs with your living room lamps, so you can easily dim the lights. You can even connect them to your Echo Dot, so you can say, “Alexa, dim the lights to 10%” or get festive by asking “Alexa, turn my lights orange.”
